National Fishing and Boating Week is the first full week of June. This is the best time to get outdoors, release stress, relax, and find fun activities for the whole family. Where available, participate in free fishing days and go to a fishing event such as a fishing derby, a how-to clinic, or a boating parade.

State Parks to take your family for National Fishing and Boating Week:
Bluewater Lake, New Mexico
While camping at this serene lake, you can enjoy views of the Zuni Mountains and hike through a landscape of pinyon-juniper woodland. The lake itself is around 1,500 acres and offers plenty of fishing. It’s been reported that the tiger muskie fishing here is premiere. You’ll also find rainbow trout, channel catfish, smallmouth bass, and even some exotic species of goldfish. You’ll find a spot somewhere along the 4.6 miles of shoreline to cast your line and make a day of it.
Charlestown Breachway, Rhode Island
RV camping here is perfect for a boating and fishing vacation. The camping spots are on the east side and within walking distance of the beach. From the beach you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the Block Island Sound. Launch your boat and experience some of the best saltwater fishing around.
Logan State Park, Montana
Be sure to explore the Thompson Chain of Lakes where you can swim, boat, water-ski, and fish. Douglas fir, ponderosa pine, and western larch populate its shores providing scenic views as you fish the Upper, Middle and Lower Thompson lakes. The park covers 17 acres full of recreational opportunities and offers 37 campsites.
Lake Dennison Recreation Area, Massachusetts
Bring your kayak, canoe or non-gas powered boat to launch on the 85-acre Lake Dennison for some great fishing. When you aren’t fishing, you can hike, or swim. In addition, there are 50 miles of mountain bike trails you can explore in the adjacent Birch Hill State Wildlife Management Area. Choose between 151 campsites that are beautifully wooded. Every campsite has a grill and picnic table.
General Burnside State Park, Kentucky
This state park, named for a Civil War General, is the only park in Kentucky that is an island. Ideal for fishing and boating, you can rent a boat or bring your own. Everything is provided for a wonderful day in the sun on the lake. Use the launching ramp and get out there on the water to try your hand at catching some fish. You’ll find crappie, striped bass, largemouth bass, and smallmouth bass. You can also enjoy bird watching, wildlife viewing, and even golf.
