Lake Lowndes State Park
Visit Lake Lowndes State Park for a unique hiking experience on the out-and-back and loop trails. The 150-acre Lake Lowndes offers some great views and you can picnic nearby before embarking on your hiking adventure. The Opossum Nature Trail takes you around the lake on a 5.6 mile loop, with some of the hike done on the park road. Add on the Lake Lowndes Loop Trail and you get a total of 6.2 miles. Beautiful wildflowers abound and it is a wonderful opportunity for some landscape shots, so bring your camera.
McLeod Park Campground
Just over an hour’s drive from Mobile and New Orleans, McLeod Park is nestled on the shores of the Jourdan River along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The campground is loaded with amenities, including a playground, splashpad, disc golf course, basketball court. There’s plenty of water recreation opportunities – fishing, boating and swimming – on the Jourdan River. With 120 campsites – all with full hookup – located both on and off the riverfront, there is a campsite for everyone. There are also two group shelters for group gatherings.

Roosevelt State Park
Conveniently located between Meridian and Jackson, Roosevelt State Park is a picturesque backdrop for outdoor recreation and relaxation, perfect for a weekend getaway. Plenty of amenities are available for use, including a banquet hall, game room, performing arts & media center, picnic areas and pavilions, disc golf, playgrounds, tennis courts, nature trails, and more. Shadow Lake, a 150-acre freshwater lake, is perfect for fishing, boating or water skiing in warmer weather. The area is defined by its hardwood forests and gently sloping landscape. A scenic overlook offers sweeping views of nearby Bienville National Forest. Overnighters can stay in one of 109 campsites or 15 vacation cabins.
Buccaneer State Park
Plan a visit to the western Massachusetts area and October Mountain State Forest so you can catch the scenic fall views. The first week of October is the best time to come, with the Berkshires offering the best of their autumn colors at this time. Take leisurely walks or ride a bike among the falling leaves. October Mountain’s name has been attributed to Herman Melville who was impressed by his view of these hills from his home in Pittsfield.
Natchez State Park
If you’re an American history buff or architecture fan, Natchez State Park should be your next Mississippi camping destination. The park is located 10 miles from the oldest settlement on the Mississippi River, offering convenient access to incredible historic mansions that are open for guided tours. Natchez State Park is considered one of the state’s best fishing areas, as the largest bass in Mississippi history was caught on Natchez Lake (18.15 pounds!). The park land also offers plenty of opportunities for hiking, lake swimming, boating and birdwatching.
The Natchez State Park campground offers something for everyone, with 50 campsites and 10 lakeside vacation cabins. Campground amenities include barbeque pits, fire rings, picnic areas, a bathhouse, ranger station and more.
