Campgrounds with Halloween Activities
1. Lums Pond State Park, Delaware
Lums Pond Halloween Hoot is a beloved annual tradition the Saturday before Halloween. Campers need to bring their Halloween decorations for the Best Decorated Campsite contest and candy for trick or treating. Hayrides, pumpkin carving, pony rides, and face painting are all in store for the lucky Halloween campers.
2. Kentucky Horse Park, Kentucky
For the second and third weekend in October, the Kentucky Horse Park hosts their popular annual Halloween Campout. This well-attended event features trick or treating, costume contests, a golf cart parade, ice cream social, plenty of games and crafts, as well as live entertainment set amidst a spookily decorated park. This fun and fright-filled weekend is a great way to end the park’s camping season.
Two Halloween-themed camping weekends are in store for registered campers on the weekends of October 11 and 18, 2019. Dress up the kids for a costume contest and bring candy for trick or treating. There will be games and other Halloween fun!
4. Whitewater Memorial State Park, Indiana
This park, encompassing the 200-acre Whitewater Lake, hosts an annual Spooktacular on October 11, 2019. This event is a favorite for its costume contest, pumpkin carving, and plenty of fall and Halloween related activities.
5. F.D. Roosevelt State Park, Georgia
This hiker and camper’s haven is the backdrop to the frighteningly fun “Nightmare on 190.” Gates open for the event at 8pm with two walk-through Halloween scene options. The first is geared towards older kids and adults, ages 12 years and up. A not-quite-as-scary, but still thrilling, alternative trail is available for the younger crowd. This alternative is fifteen minutes long and ends with a marshmallow roast. The event is held October 4-5, October 11-12 and October 18-19, 2019.
6. Goblin Valley State Park, Utah
The setting alone at Goblin Valley has a spooky quality to it. The area is characterized by strange sandstone formations known as goblins. Beautiful but erie, the valley’s landscape is the perfect backdrop to some Halloween camping fun. Bring your Halloween spirit, decorations, and scary stories to this spooky camping area.

Campsites Near Famous Haunted Areas
7. City of Two Harbors Burlington Bay Campground, Minnesota
This campsite is about an hour from the Devil’s Gateway Haunted Trail. This haunted half-mile of trail takes you through a super creepy forest. You are dropped off at the entrance following a hayride and it takes about 20 minutes to walk through all of the scary scenarios. Admission is only $5 and supports a local cause.
This beautiful state park is about a half hour drive from the Ames Haunted Forest. This scary trail takes about thirty minutes to complete, and may have the whole family screaming!
Hermit Park is only about a 10-15 minute drive to the famous Stanley Hotel – famous, that is for inspiring Stephen King’s book The Shining, and some say for being haunted. Called one of the “most spirited hotels,” the Stanley plays up its angle as a haunt with a few events during the Halloween season. The Shining Ball on October 19, 2019, which encompasses two floors of entertainment, with a dance floor and costume contest, is followed by a murder mystery dinner on October 25th. The Saturday before Halloween, October 26, 2019, is the Halloween Masquerade Party with dancing, spirited drinks, and festive costumes.
