Located just 15 miles from Boulder, Colorado, the Lavern M Johnson Park even has a zipline. Campsites are within walking distance of shops and restaurants and are only minutes from historic downtown Lyons and the Heil Valley Ranch Open Space where you can hike, bike and explore. Grand Lake is the largest natural lake in all of Colorado and the town offers year-round activities. It is home to the Rocky Mountain Repertory Theater and offers a downtown boardwalk with boutiques, art galleries, restaurants and bars, antique shops, old fashioned ice cream parlors and sweet shops, plus it has a diverse and lively night life. There are no big-box stores here, only locally owned and curated, customer-friendly businesses allowed. When you’re on the boardwalk, don’t miss the hand-made fudge and be sure to ask the locals about all of the hundreds of different kinds of rubber ducks you can get in the gift shop. Elk Creek Campground – 143 Co Rd 48, Grand Lake, CO 80447
If you’re looking for camping in Grand Lake – you have found some of the best! “Super friendly staff, easy access and only two minutes from Grand Lake.” This is close to town – but not too close. Elk Creek has RV parking, cabin and teepee rentals and tent camping sites are available, too. For the RVing guests they offer on-site grey and black water dump out services. And, if you’re staying more than five days, the dumping service is free. Pets are welcome, but limited to 2 per site rented. Although the facility is on a hillside, the campsites are on level surfaces with gravel and/or dirt base. Super clean bathrooms and showers have been reported by previous guests. The management limits the number of people that can occupy each site to preserve the beauty and quiet for all. And, there is plenty of free parking and a self-serve laundry for your convenience. Free internet, too! There are 25 restaurants and 22 attractions within five miles of the campgrounds, too. But don’t take just our word on this; here’s what a recent review said, “We stayed a few days, the staff were very friendly they guided us in activities and places, everything was very clean, the laundry is clean and efficient. The campground is very quiet with an impressive view towards the Rocky Mountains!!! Daily we saw moose and reindeer. Arapaho Bay, Colorado – 77 Arapaho Bay Rd, Granby, CO 80446
Located on Lake Granby, the Arapaho Bay is a smaller, beautiful alternative to the popular Grand Lake area in north central Colorado. The campground has three loops of single and double sites equipped with a picnic table, fire ring and tent pad. Parking length ranges from 20-40 feet. Water and trash collection are provided for all sites. A high mountain lake – Lake Granby sites at an elevation of 8,300 feet above sea level – it offers boating, sailing, fishing and, for the most adventurous and those who don’t mind the pristine, cold waters, swimming. Kokanee lake salmon and trout offer anglers a goal. Sites 1-7 are open in the winter and there are no fees, but there are no amenities offered, either. Restrooms are locked during the cold season so campers will need to be self-contained. The area is known for its snowmobiling and ice fishing . The Arapaho National Recreation Area is six miles northwest.

Some sites offer ADA accessibility. There is a camp store with firewood and ice sales and a dump station for your convenience. Additional amenities include fresh drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers, a playground for the kids, plus water and electric hookups. There’s a multi-use singletrack that will connect you to the YMCA where you’ll find great mountain biking…and don’t forget about the fishing. Located at the base of Hahn’s Peak, Steamboat Lake State Park offers campers 188 sunny campsites with breathtaking views and excellent recreational opportunities. The 1,011 acre lake is surrounded by scenery and serenity. Year-round fishing, and hiking top the list of activities. Winter comes alive with snowshoeing, cross country skiing and traversing the 146 miles of snowmobile trails. Summer offers boat rentals, horseback riding, a swimming beach, sailing, and water skiing. Trailers, motor homes, campers and tents are all welcome. You will need a vehicle park pass and the pass cost is not included in your site reservation fee.

Four wheeling, horseback riding, fishing, geocaching, birding, hunting, fishing and so much more awaits you at the five campgrounds located within the State Forest State Park. The Yampa River State Park is actually three parks in one! There are 50 camping sites in which 35 are RV electric sites, 10 are tent sites and there are five designated sites for group camping. You’ll find potable water and a dump station located conveniently at the entrance to the campgrounds. The heart of the Yampa River State Park is the 134 miles of the Yampa River and the activities it offers such as fishing and hunting. Additionally, this park welcomes OHV enthusiasts (off-highway vehicle) with paths for motorcycles, dirt bikes, dune buggies and ATVs.

This year-round destination makes a great “base camp” when you’re ready to explore. Be sure and check out the Flattops and Sarvis Creek Wilderness Areas. Camping is by reservation only.

Craig, Colorado is known as the “Elk Hunting Capital of the World. Sitting at an elevation of 6,198 feet and surrounded by rivers, streams, canyons and forested land, the deer and antelope hunting are world class. But there’s more to do here than just explore the 1.8 million acres of public lands, Craig has a wonderful cowboy museum and plays host to the Grand Old West Days celebration, the Moffat County Balloon Festival and Whittle the Wood Rendezvous. There are lots of four season outdoor activities at Elk Head Reservoir and, in the summer there’s an 18 hole golf course, wave/lap and diving pool, too. Tent camping and cabin rentals are also available. You can choose from different hookups to fit your needs and budget. WiFi and cable TV are included with your reservation. You may also purchase firewood and propane on site for an additional fee. This family and pet-friendly facility even has its own dog park. Described as “Laid back and peaceful” you can plan to just sit back and relax around the campfire.
Elkhead Reservoir State Park, CO – 135 County Road 28 Craig, CO 81625
This state park offers endless recreational options in the beautiful state park with a 900 acre reservoir. What’s your favorite? Choose from: swimming, skiing, picnicking, wildlife and bird watching, hiking, camping, snowmobiling, OHV riding, horseback riding, hunting, photography opportunities, fishing, biking, jet skiing and boating…or maybe you prefer to just sit back and take in all the quiet and beauty. After the seasonal boat ramp closes for the season you can still hand launch. Be advised that there is no dump station or water hydrant at this park, but if you stay here you can use the dump station at Yampa River State Park.

Drinking water, restrooms, shelter and showers are available. A ranger station is on site.

Bellaire Lake Campground, CO – 4545 Co Rd 69, Red Feather Lakes, CO 80545
Located less than 50 miles from Fort Collins, Colorado this lake is noted for cutthroat and rainbow trout fishing, from a boat, boardwalk, pier or shoreline. Canoeing and hiking are also popular activities. There are 27 campsites and 26 RV sites but be advised that there is are no water or sewer hookups or dump stations. Electric hookups are available. Up to eight people are allowed in a single site and all campsites with a tent pad have a provided bear locker. RV parking lengths range from 30 to 75 feet.
