Ricketts Glen State Park, Pennsylvania
This state park offers exceptional beauty for your Fourth of July weekend. Much of the beauty comes from the old growth timber and wide variety of wildlife in this area. Glens Natural Area within the park is a National Natural Landmark. With over 13,000 acres to explore, you’ll never have downtime. There is much to do and see in this park, including a waterfall hike, fishing, horseback riding, swimming, and relaxing on the beach. Be sure to see the 94-foot Ganoga Falls which is the highest of the many free-flowing falls within Ricketts Glen State Park.
Golden Gate Canyon State Park, Colorado
Even if you plan to enjoy the fireworks in Denver on this holiday weekend, it’s just a short 30 mile trip to Golden Gate Canyon State Park where you can take a Fourth of July hike. This is the best way to cool off on those hot summer days. The mountain streams are filled with cascading waters from the melting snow and the wildflowers are blooming in all their magnificence. The best hike is a 2 ½ mile loop that is easy to moderate. There will be plenty of shade and you’ll see panoramic views of the Indian Peaks. Mountain biking is also popular and you’ll discover a number of trails to explore. Bird and wildlife watching are also popular here. Cabins, yurts, tent-only sites, RV sites, and backcountry camping are available.
Deam Lake State Recreation Area, Indiana
Deam Lake was named for the first Indiana state forester who wrote a book all about the trees of the state. There are 80 miles of trails in adjacent Clark State Forest for all purposes; hiking, biking, and horseback riding. The family campground boasts 113 electric sites while the equestrian campground has 36 campsites with electricity that come with a horse stall and 63 electric campsites that have a hitching post.

Tickfaw State Park, Louisiana
This Louisiana state park is a great choice for a Fourth of July celebration for the whole family. You can bet you’ll have a wonderful time in nearby Springfield with their annual fireworks, parade, and much more, and best of all, it’s only a few minutes away. At the campground you can use the boardwalks to wander through the pine, cypress, and hardwood forests. Choose from any one of 14 vacation cabins and enjoy air-conditioned comfort with a view of a cypress swamp, or you can camp at one of the thirty sites that have water and electricity. You will discover this to be a wonderful Fourth of July destination and will want to come back again and again.
Delaware Seashore State Park, Delaware
The Fourth of July is the ideal time for a seaside getaway at this state park. Explore the coast, enjoying the views of the Atlantic Ocean, and participating in a number of outdoor activities. You can hike, fish, kayak, watch birds, or swim – or all of those. Camp right near the beach and walk the shoreline to get in some exercise. With both RV sites with full hookups and tent sites, you can have a choice of your preferred campsite.
Kerr Lake State Recreation Area, North Carolina
Here in North Carolina, you will find the opportunity to enjoy a beautiful place where your family can have a memorable outdoor experience. The lake is popular for fishing and boating, with 50,000 acres to traverse. Hiking is fun, with a number of trails to try out. Two of the easy trails are Big Poplar Trail and Kerr Lake Track Trail. Swim beaches offer a chance to cool off. There are hundreds of campsites in this recreation area offering everything from RV hookups to tent camping. The wooded sites are lovely with many of them right on the edge of the water.
