1. Lake Cascade State Park, Idaho

2. Hanging Rock State Park, North Carolina

– Less than an hour from Winston-Salem

Less than an hour from Winston-Salem is an oasis of waterfalls and rock outcrops with views of the mountains and the famed piedmont. Hanging Rock State Park also has a lake beloved for swimming, boating and fishing when temperatures warm up. All year-round there are over 20 miles of multi-use trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horse riding. Your group has plenty of camping options with over 90 campsites, including 10 family cabins, four picnic shelters, and five primitive group campsites. Escape from it all in this stunning park, a classic example of high-country Colorado wilderness, located about a 3-hour drive east of Boulder. Within the park is a large reservoir, with great year-round fishing. The trail system allows for wilderness exploration and wildlife viewing among the rolling hills of fragrant sagebrush. The park has 89 campsites, spread out for privacy, that can accommodate trailers, motor homes, pick-up campers and tents. There are also two group campsites and one group picnic area for rent.

4. Moreau Lake State Park, New York

Grayton Beach State Park is consistently ranked as one of the best beaches in the country for good reason. Its one mile of sugar-white sand beaches along the clear, blue-green waters of the Gulf of Mexico is as idyllic seascape as any. There are also walking trails through the coastal forest of scrub oaks and magnolias. You can stay at a well-outfitted cabin with their own gated access. Or, choose a more rustic accommodation at one of the 55 campgrounds, all with their own ground grill, electric hookup, water and picnic table. 6. McLeod Park Campground, Mississippi

Just over an hourโ€™s drive from Mobile and New Orleans, McLeod Park is nestled on the shores of the Jourdan River along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The campground is loaded with amenities, including a playground, splashpad, disc golf course, basketball court. Thereโ€™s plenty of water recreation opportunities – fishing, boating and swimming – on the Jourdan River. With 120 campsites – all with full hookup – located both on and off the riverfront, there is a campsite for everyone. There are also two group shelters for group gatherings.

 7. Elinor Bedell State Park, Iowa

– One of the only open spaces along the Great Lakes in Iowa

Elinor Bedell State Park is one of the last remaining open spaces along Iowaโ€™s Great Lakes. The park is notable for its preserved prairies, wetlands and oak savanna landscapes, once typical for the region. Besides water recreation, campers can explore this special area through the extensive trail system, and kids can stay busy at the playground. Additionally, there is a large open shelter with kitchenette and modern restrooms that overlooks the lake (must be reserved, in addition to your campsite).

My Old Kentucky Home State Park comprises an historic mansion known as Federal Hill, the home of a former U.S. senator. Campers can play tennis or golf, or take in a play at the outdoor theatre. There are also playgrounds, a central service building with showers and restrooms, and a dump station onsite. 34 campsites have electric hookup, and 5 full-service sites are available – all with picnic tables and fire pits. There is also a picnic shelter for rent, and meeting facilities suitable for any size group
