Red Top Mountain State Park
Less than one hour north of Atlanta is Red Top Mountain providing a perfect getaway from the city. The park is on Lake Allatoona offering fishing, boating, and a newly renovated beach. More than 15 miles of hiking, biking, and ADA accessible trails traverse the woods and shoreline. You’ll want to relax at one of the new cottages or the shaded campground after a full day of exploring.

Hard Labor Creek State Park
Just north of I-20 in Rutledge is Hard Labor Creek, best known for its 18-hole golf course complete with cart rentals, pro shop, driving range, and special rates for seniors and children. The family will also enjoy the lakeside beach, fishing lake, and many miles of hiking, biking and equestrian trails. More than 50 campsites and 20 cottages are available, and two two-bedroom cabins have been recently renovated.
Jack Hill State Park
Tucked away in southeast Georgia is family-friendly Jack Hill State Park. Spend the day along the nature trail, picnicking beside a small lake, or trying out FootGolf. During summer, visitors can rent aquacycles, kayaks and fishing boats. Brazell’s Creek Golf Course offers a challenging 18-holes, including the signature 15th hole which plays over scenic wetlands to a large island green. Stay for more than a day at one of the renovated cabins or small campground.
F.D. Roosevelt State Park
F.D. Roosevelt is Georgia’s largest state park and just 80 miles south of Atlanta. Enjoy the small fishing lake, 40 miles of trails through Pine Mountain, guided horseback rides, and nearby Roosevelt’s Little White House Historic Site. There are 21 cottages and 115 campsites to choose from, making this a great escape for spring and summer.
Crooked River State Park
On the southern tip of Georgia’s “Colonial Coast” is Crooked River. You’ll find 11 cottages and 63 campsites nestled along the tidal river. Take a hike among live oaks and palmettos to look for gopher tortoises, herons, alligators and other wildlife. Birders will especially enjoy the bird blind. Explore nearby tabby ruins, Cumberland Island National Seashore, and Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation.
